Meet our Pastor and First Lady

“For this vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarries, wait for it, because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” — Habakkuk 2:3

It has been our pleasure and honor to serve as Pastor and First Lady of Mt. Bethel for approximately 29 years. These years have been both challenging and rewarding, and we thank God for this awesome opportunity.

We have been married for almost 56 years. We are the proud parents of two sons: Brian, who resides in Colonial Heights, VA with his wife, Kayla; and Travis, who resides in Mechanicsville, VA with his wife, Erin. We are also blessed with six wonderful grandchildren, ranging in age from nine to twenty-five.

We both graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in 1967. Pastor Hobbs went on to pursue his degree at Miami Dade College in Miami, FL. I attended North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC. Pastor Hobbs later earned his Master of Divinity from Virginia Union University, and I received a Master of Science in Education from Virginia Tech.

We retired in June and November of 2003, respectively. Pastor Hobbs retired as Supervisor of Transportation from Norfolk Southern Railway after nearly 35 years of service. I retired after more than 31 years of teaching at Nottoway High School. God has blessed us with reasonably good health, and we have been able to travel, enjoy family and friends, and continue serving this church family to the best of our ability.

As we look back over the last 29 years, we can truly say, God is good—and He is good all the time. He has brought this church from a Bush Harbor to a strong, thriving institution in the community of Lunenburg County.

We thank Him—and we thank this church family—for giving us the opportunity to grow in wisdom and knowledge as we have watched one another grow spiritually over these many years. It has been our joy to help nurture what we lovingly call “the Best Church in the Whole Wide World.”

It is our hope and prayer that God will continue to bless each of you in spirit and in truth, and that He will open windows of heaven and pour out blessings so abundant that you will not have room to receive them. Our prayer is that God will richly bless each of you with peace of heart and peace of mind.
